State Farm to Pay $14.5 Million to Indiana Man

An Indiana jury awarded $14.5 million to a local man and his restoration company in a lawsuit involving State Farm Insurance. Joseph Radcliff claimed that after a 2006 hailstorm in Indianapolis, State Farm “made unfounded claims of fraud against Radcliff and instigated the filing of felony charges against him.” The charges were dropped, but Radcliff claimed his business was destroyed as a result. Oklahoma Governor Fallin Sings New Bill Into Law to Address Teen Drinking and Boat Accidents

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin has signed into law a new bill that addresses problems with operating boats under the influence of alcohol and teen drinking.

The first law, which went into effect last month, lowers the legal limit for drunken driving of a boat to 0.08, in line with Oklahoma Motor Vehicle laws.   The new law is to ward against boat accidents.  Sen. Bill Brown of Eufaula wrote this bill.  Sen. Brown’s family operates a marina on Lake Eufaula.  He has stated that since 2003, over 103 drunken driving boating accidents have occurred in Oklahoma statewide.  These accidents have resulted in 52 deaths.

The second law which goes into effect November 1, 2011, calls for stricter penalties for adults that allow teens and minors to drink at social events.  The new law calls for penalties, punishable by fine as follows:  1st offense $500, 2nd offense $1,000, and subsequent offenses as much as $5,000.  The law also provides that if a violation results in the wrongful death of another, that the fines could be between $2,500 and $5,000 with imprisonment up to 5 years.

Head-On Car Accident Near Henreyetta Claims the Lives of 6

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported that on Saturday a head-on car accident, near Henryetta, Oklahoma, claimed the lives of 6 people.  5 of the six killed were passengers in a vehicle driven by Jorge Salas.  Salas was driving southbound on Indian Nations Turnpike when, it is reported, that he changed lanes and in an attempt to avoid another vehicle swerved into a guardrail.  He then crossed the center median hitting another vehicle head-on.  The vehicle that Salas hit head-on was operated by Russell Bowden who was also killed in the head-on collision.  It is reported that none of the people in the Salas vehicle where wearing seatbelts.

Pennsylvania Man Awarded $1.6 Million

A Pennsylvania man was awarded $1.6 Million who lost his leg in an accident while working in a Kansas grain bin.  The man slipped while working in the bin falling and getting his leg caught in the drag chain.  His claim was that the manufacturer of the conveyor system failed to provide adequate safety protection for wrkers in the bins and did not warn of the serious risk of injury.

Sequoyah County Car Accident Claims Muskogee Man

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported that a Muskogee County man died in a one car accident on Sunday night.  It is reported that the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.  The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Morris was pronounced dead at Muskogee Regional Medical Center.  Other passengers in the vehicle included Jessica Neal, Michael McGrew and Jody White.  Jessica Neal was transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa with head, leg, arm and internal injuries.

Semi-Truck Accident Causes Death of 2 Oklahoma Women

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported that a truck accident, ends in the death of 2 Pawhuska women, early Thursday.  The women were riding in a car driven by Michael Smith of Pawhuska when it impacted 2 cows in the middle of the roadway.  Immediately after this first collision, the 2 women got out of the vehicle of which they were riding to inspect the damage.  While inspecting the damage, a tractor-trailer rig traveled towards the car cow accident scene and failed to stop thus striking their vehicle and the 2 women.  Eva Victoria Johnson and Johnia Jean Mashunkashey were pronounced dead at the scene.

Motorcycle Accident with Donkey Results in Death of Motorcyclist

A Rush Springs man died after his motorcycle collided with a donkey, as reported by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.  The motorcycle accident occurred in Grady County when the donkey crossed in front of the path of the operator of the motorcycle.

The accident occurred on Highway 81 on May 6, 2011.  Stephen Frank Wood, the operator of the motorcycle died on May 21, 2011.

Nowata Oklahoma Woman Killed in Car Accident

A Nowata woman, Josephine Allen, was killed Monday evening in a head on collision car accident on U.S. 169 in Rogers County.  According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol the vehicle of which she was riding in was struck by another vehicle that had crossed the center line of the highway.  The vehicle of which Allen was riding in was being operated by Brenda Stroud of Dewey who was reportedly pinned in her vehicle for over 30 minutes.

Allen was pronounced dead at a local Tulsa hospital.

Motorcyclist Killed in Owasso in Morning Accident

A motorcycle rider was killed today on highway 169 near 74th Street North, the Owasso Police Department reported.  The motorcyclist was identified as Iain James Bell who was operating a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle.The accident occurred when a driver of a Ford truck reportedly entered highway 169, on the wrong side of the road, and traveled approximately 1 mile before the accident occurred.

The operator of the Ford truck was arressted on a variety of charges including driving under the influence.
